Hey Thad, I was looking on the M/ T web site today, and they showed a 22 in. tire. Will the smaller the tire, the quicker the E/T? ? to a point? They are all 15 in. wheel.

NO THE SMALLER THE TIRE THE SLOWER YOUR E.T. WILL BE. THE BIGGER THE FASTER THE E.T. HOPE THAT HELPS, I KNOW IT DON'T MAKE SENSE BUT THAT IS HOW IT WORKS OR SO IT HAS IN MY PAST DEALINGS.

It makes total sense. With a bigger tire, it takes the car longer to break the beams and you get a so called bigger run at the tree. With a smaller tire, the car breaks the beam sooner and the car is not running as fast as it does with the bigger tire. Though it may be minute, that run at the tree helps the ET.

Yes same reason that deep staging or bumping in will slow et down. Less of a head start.

My car will run .200 of itself from day to night, I just can't cut a light. I may be able to borrow a couple sizes of tires from PTRA members to test for a run or two. Thanks guys. Mark

Mark, Remember you got a Chevy 2. If you go to run a bigger tire make sure you can turn it and it won't rub. I ran into this with the 65, without a Heidts or other aftermarket front end the tires will rub up front. The aftermarket deal fixes this.

MARK I THINK THE VW TIRES ARE LIKE AROUND 25" TALL. WHAT KIND OF LIGHT DID YOU HAVE WITH THEM? I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU BEING ON IT AND NOT LOOKING AT THE WOMEN IN THE STANDS OR THINKING OF STOPPING AT HOOTER'S ON THE WAY HOME. IS IT A STEADY .05-.06? THE REASON I'M ASKING IS THE 22" TIRE MIGHT BE A LITTLE EXTREME IN MY OPINION. USUALLY 23"S ARE WHAT WILL GET YOU RIGHT. LET ME KNOW ABOUT THAT BULB DEAL AND I THINK WE CAN GET YOU THERE.

Thanks Thad, my lights are around .150. My tires are right at 26 in. tall. I talked to a guy that might be able to let me borrow a set of 24's for a few runs.

MARK, YOU WILL SEE A DIFFERENCE WITH THE 24'S. I THINK 23'S ARE WHAT YOU WILL END UP WITH TO BE HONEST. I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE HAVING BETTER LIGHTS THAN .150 . I THOUGHT YOUR CAR DID BETTER THAN THAT FOR SOME REASON. ARE YOU FOOTBRAKING OR TRNASBRAKING? IF YOU ARE T/B THEN PULL OUT THE LOW SIDE CHIP AND LEAVE ON THE FLOOR WITH IT. ALSO ARE YOU RUNNING STIFF SIDEWALL SLICKS? THAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU THINK. SOFT SLICKS WAD THE TIRES UP BEFORE THEY GET TO MOVING, SORT OF LIKE A RAG IN A LAWNMOWER BLADE. ALSO AIR PRESSURE IN THE SLICKS IS IMPORTANT TOO. 1/2 POUND CAN DO WONDERS FOR YOU . TRUST ME ON THIS. I SPENT MORE THAN A FEW WEEKS AT SHADYSIDE PLAYING WITH MY MUSTANG BEFORE I EVER RAN A PTRA EVENT TO MAKE SURE I COULD GET A LIGHT. HOPE THIS HELPS.
