Here is what I have.
72 Nova Balkhalved SBC with a Ron's Tolite P/G 1.80 Strait Cut Ford 9 inch with 5.14 Gears (Have always ran 5.43) 32 Inch Tall Rear Tire 26 Inch Tall Front Tire
On a regular .500 handicapp tree I usually run 1.075 to go .005 on the tree. So with those numbers I should be .030 on a .400 tree.
This year we changed some stuff up in the Nova. First in the engine department, we retarded the cam to take some of the violence out of it. It would hit the tires a bit too hard for my liking. I could go 1.32 in the 60 foot but would only run 6.25 at 110. Also changed the valve shprings, they were shot. The other thing we changed was the rear gear, we wanted to keep the RPM's around the 7500 range for when we went to PINKS in April.
Now I know I can tie the front end down a bit to help with the bulb (If I run the .400 tree stuff), or I could just take a few extra bumps in the stage beam. Is there anything else that I can do to the car to improve my reaction time for the .400 tree stuff? The transmission is rebuilt and in the car, so adding a Hipster brake is not something I want to do at this time. Thanks a ton.

HANK WHAT TYPE SLICKS ARE YOU RUNNING? MY CAR DOES BEST WITH A STIFF SIDE WALL. IF YOU ARE RUNNING 14X32'S I'D LOOK INTO SOME GOODYEAR D-1984'S. THEY ARE A LITTLE HARD IN THE COMPOUND DEPARTMENT BUT THEY HELP THE CAR MOVE OFF THE HIT.

I run the 1408's (32X16) and I believe they are a stiff sidewall. With a 3200 pound car, it helps to have stiffs on the back.

What Thad and Mike said are both Very true.
There are some other things you can check though and play with.
I know it sounds remedial but look closely at your trans brake button,How far does it travel to activate and deactivate? There are adjustable ones. Dedenbear, and others
How close (RPM) are you leaving to your converter flash? Closer you can run quicker reaction of the Chassis.
You have to be relatively close, but yet stay away just enough it will load the rear suspension properly to plant the tires and make the shocks ( need to be set stiff as possible) work.
Does your front end have any stagger in it? you may want to string it off and check wheel base side to side, any stagger will cause a slower reaction time ( but it helps ET).
Hope this helps

Shorter tire will help. Just remeber its a trade off what you gain on the light you will loose in ET.

Is that you Silky "D" u still got that cool pimp hat? I want a hat with hair like Lumppy had. Need to still cut a light though. I may have to check into 24 in tire. I have 26 up front now. I would be fine with a slower et, it's not all that fast anyway, but it will run .200 from day to night, but I have a problem with staging position.

YEP MARK, IT'S ME "SILKY D.". THE 24'S WILL HELP. YOU MIGHT EVEN GO DOWN TO A 23 IF YOU HAVE TO. THE WAGON WOULD GO 70'S WITH MY BIG TIRES ON BUT LIKE YOU SAID WE WOULD GET HAMMERED ON THE TREE. WITH THE LITTLES ON WE GO 80'S BUT KILLER CAN GET A LIGHT NOW. SO IT'S UP TO YOU AS HOW YOU WANT TO RACE. OR JUST PUT SOME GAS TO IT AND MAKE IT LEAVE. WE DO THAT ALSO. IF YOU WANT TO SEE IT FIRST HAND JUST LET ME KNOW AND WE CAN PUT NASTY IN THE LANE BESIDE OF YOU AND YOU CAN SEE IT LEAVE ON YOU. LOL. JUST KIDDING MAN. IF I CAN HELP YOU OUT WITH MORE INFO LET ME KNOW.
