How many of you Mustang guys have bought one of those kits where you switch from power brakes to manual brakes. What all did you do to your brake system? Did you just take out the brake booster & put in the spacer block? Did you have to do anything as far as adding a preportioning valve? The reason I'm asking this question is because I bought one of those kits where you took out the power booster & added the spacer in behind the master cylinder & that's all I did. The brakes won't hold the car past 2000 RPM when your at the line. Today I was up on Skinny Kids Race cars website & they had this kit www.skinnykidracecars.com/products/883/10lb-residual-valve-kit , & it says that it's a must when using a manual brake conversion with rear drum brakes. What I'm wandering is should I do something like this or is what my car is doing normal?

Im running the factory non power set up with 4 wheel disk brakes. The problem with the kits that are sold is they do not have the extra pedal ratio to make up for the lose of the booster. The factory non power cars have more pedal ratio. Under the dash were the pedal mounts there is another hole just above were it mounts the power pedal. The pin for the push rod on the non power pedal is moved down to give more leverage. What i have done in the past if i cant find a non power pedal is move the stock pedal to the higher hole and make a new mount for the push rod. This will give you some more leverage. You should also go to the 1 1/8 mopar style master cylinder. Im not sure why skinny kids wants the valves in there i have only used them when the master is lower than the brakes to keep fluid from returning to the master cylinder and causing a soft pedal.

Honestly, I really had never thought about there was maybe a problem until I saw this kit last night, I just thought that was the way it was. The question I have here is if I go with the Mopar style master cylinder do I have to make any mods? If I go with a Mopar style master cylinder I guess I should go with a new proportioning valve right? If so what type? I also guess that all I have to do to my pedal is drill a new hole through it once I move it up to the higher hole?

I preffer to weld a new pin on not much material to drill through for a bolt. As far as the proportioning valve goes prob not a bad idea but it wont give you any more holding power it just changes what hits first for the most part. I would just do the pedal first and see if that helps.

Thanks krobinson! That's what I'll try & see how it do's. I also now a guy that has a bunch of Mustang parts. I'll call him & see if he might have a manual pedal first.
