I will be posting this on facebook as well but wanted to say it here first. I am not so sure the direction of Performance Street is the direction that is best for the PTRA. The one and only question to answer in this whole decision making process is this: What will bring cars to the class? I have been quietly watching this unfold and based on what I have seen, it looks the same (5-8 cars). Granted, these are all outstanding racers that put on a great show. I am not discounting the efforts that these "pioneers" of the class have put forth. When I started this class 5 or so years ago, it was meant as an intro level heads up class. We all know the evolution process of a heads up class. About 5 years is it. By then, the money has taken over, the limits have been pushed, and several non competitive racers have bailed out. This is where we are now except we have a split. The "new" Performance Street combos are running almost 2 tenths quicker than the traditional motor combos.
Considering True Street is now 5.20's and 5.30's, there is no where for a nitrous car in the high fives to compete. My question is why not fill that void by speeding up Performance Street by allowing nitrous on most combos with major jet limits and target the 5.80's. (Which is where the small inch nitrous cars have already tapped in good air). I have a new set of preliminary rules (that need to be fine tuned), for a new class that will do just this.
Now, coming from the guy who has lost the money on all these classes over the years just to make sure people have a place to race, I need real feedback to let me know if people will be interested in this. Everyone knows that nitrous small tire cars are plentiful. They want to race but will not change everything on the car to do it. We have to target an ET and a group of racers that are left out of X275, Ultimate and True Street. With nitrous in the picture, no matter how much it is limited, a racer has "tuneability" as opposed to an all motor combo.
Bottom line: The current Performance Street category has run its course and can't really improve without some changes. Also: With the expenses of a race track by the hour and with purse structure so critical, a class has to warrant being a part of the program. I feel there is a void right now and with a few changes, Performance Street, or whatever I call it, could be the hit that everyone is looking for. I just can't fall in the trap of trying to protect the original racers of the class and not exploring real options that make sense. After ten years of the PTRA, I have definitely realized the difference in friends and business. I love my friends, but want to keep the business. I will post what is my starting point for this new class. If there is no interest in this idea, we will move on.

Performance Street 2014 (Alternative)
1. This eliminator is designed for American made cars and trucks and is modeled as a "junior" or “intro” version of Top Street or X275. Entries will qualify as a sixteen car field and will be set on a 16 car NHRA style pro ladder. Entries will be expected to alternate lanes during qualifying. Card system will be used for lane choice during qualifying if necessary. Staging lane director has final say.
2. The goal of Performance Street is for the entries to resemble the street version much like Stock and/or Super Stock. Any fiberglass components must be stock appearing and not noticeable. No forward facing hood scoops or any type of air induction system that receives fresh air from the front or sides of the vehicle. A sealed off rear exit cowl hood is permitted. Lexan windows are allowed. Any “spoiler” on the front of the vehicle must retain a 3 inch clearance at its lowest point and can’t extend more than 45 inches from center of front spindle. Covering front end openings for aerodynamics is acceptable but must be approved by tech.
3. Stock type suspension only. Very limited modifications allowed. No coil over conversions on rear. Bottom of shock mounting position may be moved over on leaf spring vehicles for tire clearance. Leaf springs may be moved over for tire clearance. Mild "wheel tubs" are allowed for tire clearance. Traction bars and cal-tracks are legal with use of any automotive type leaf springs. Adjustable control arms are allowed on factory 4-link cars. Air bags are permitted. Older Corvettes with IRS may replace the rear with a leaf spring setup similar to NHRA and IHRA Stock Eliminator allowances. Front suspension must remain stock type for vehicle. Adjustable shocks such as Lakewood, Comp Engineering or QA-1 are permitted. Aftermarket bolt on K-members and front clips such as Smith Race Craft are permitted if they retain the OEM configuration (i.e. control arms) NO wheelie bars permitted. Anti-roll bars are permitted.
4. Gasoline only. Must be either 110 or 112 and will be tested for specific gravity. Traditional 4150 style carb only. No SV1.
5. Any out of the box, cast single carb intake allowed. No tunnel rams with single top. No sheet metal intakes. Porting allowed
6. On certain combinations, a single bar plate nitrous system will be allowed. No larger than a true -4 braided line will be allowed, as well as only one bottle. No bottles mounted in the engine compartment area. Only conventional style solenoids will be permitted with one nitrous, one fuel, and one purge, directed away from the intake area.
7. Minimum weight requirements: 3250-big block naturally aspirated (570 cubic inch maximum) 3250-big block nitrous 502 cubic inch maximum 2900-small block naturally aspirated 3100-small block nitrous NITROUS ALLOWANCES:
339 cubic inch and smaller-70 jet maximum 340-385 cubic inch-50 jet maximum 386-420 cubic inch-40 jet maximum 421-440 cubic inch-35 jet maximum 441-502 cubic inch-30 jet maximum
~manual transmission may deduct 100 pounds
8. Any conventional, OEM style, readily available, out of the box cylinder head is permitted. Porting is permitted. If stock type intake will fit WITHOUT any spacers or modification, then the cylinder head will be deemed legal, as long as it is conventional in design (i.e. no 18 degree heads on SBC.) Ford small block entries will use the aforementioned “intake bolt on” criteria to determine “conventional”. No dry sump.
9. Any ignition allowed. Trans brakes are permitted. Air or electric shifters allowed. No data logger systems allowed. No sensors and/or wires allowed that transfer any data related to wheel or spindle speed, or driveshaft/yoke speed. Standard type EGT permitted.
10. Factory EFI will be permitted on 6.2 liter and smaller late model entries. NO aftermarket fuel injection setups such as FAST or any other stand alone units. Tuning must be done by a handheld unit or chip only. No laptops. 90 mm maximum single throttle body or 52 maximum twin throttle bodies. NO bread box style, or sheet metal intakes; only cast or plastic intakes. NO EXTRUDE HONING, (can only be gasket matched to cylinder heads).
11. Working tail lights mandatory and must be used at night. Approved helmet required. Multi layer fire jacket and fire pants meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/5 required. Driveshaft loop, axle retaining devices (c-clip eliminators), SFI flex plate and SFI balancer required. External battery disconnect at rear of car is required and must be labeled. Window net, gloves and neck support required. A full cage including “halo” and front down bars is required. 12. The only tires allowed are 28 X 10.5 slick (no W's), 26 X 10 slick, drag radial 275/50 or 275/60. Maximum ten inch wide wheel allowed. No beadlock wheels. 13. PTRA reserves the right to amend rules as needed to maintain the integrity, fairness, and purpose of this class, or if any combination routinely outperforms all others. If needed, nitrous jet maximums may be changed to keep a level playing field. Any competitor found to be illegal during any type of spot check will be subject to suspension and will forfeit all winnings.

I have always loved racing with the PTRA, supported it for many years. Never have been able to understand WHY The PTRA can't run Classes that are running at other places/ Rules that are in place, cars that are running. I have wanted to make a few races but can't justify the one liners that are legal or just a little different in the rules. I say NOT many people can afford totally new combos, and if they can are they going to spend there money that limits them to only one Racing body to race with. We have all writen rules normally that fit the combo, we each have but lets face it not going to bring the Other cars. I say look at some classes that are already in motion just my 2 Cents. There are some lower level Headsup classes NONE are cheap,

Make new rules and don't change them. love heads up racing and would love to run with all again. But i want rule out 6.0............my 2 cent
